We are all very aware that taking care of our oral health is important. According to dentists in Surrey, taking care of your teeth holistically goes far beyond just simple brushing and flossing. There’s so much you can do to improve your oral health; therapies such as oil pulling is popular and so is herbal mouthwash, there are so many options out there to keep your teeth bright and your smile beautiful.

The one thing that you shouldn’t ignore is the power that is hidden in the foods that we eat on a daily basis. If you choose the right food then it will naturally ‘fight the good fight’ and keep your gums healthy and your teeth pearly white!

Green Tea

Without getting into all the science behind green tea (which there is plenty of info about online), I simply want to tell you that the contents of green tea reduce inflammation of the gums and also help to control bacterial infections! One study that is online, from Japan, showed that men who drink tea less likely to have problems with gum disease. The bottom line is that green tea is good for your oral health and for your body.

Onions

If you’re similar to me then you will use onions a lot when cooking. The good news is that they’re good for you, the bad news is that it’s best not to cook them! If you can you should eat raw onions because they are very powerful and full of bacteria busting goodness. It’s easy to mix raw onions in to your diet; you can add them to salads, put them in sandwiches and any number of other ways. If you simply can’t eat them without cooking first, then eating them is better than not eating them at all!

Nuts

Nuts are good for you, full stop! They are such a fantastic source of protein and are packed with so much healthy goodness that will keep your teeth healthy; magnesium, calcium, potassium and zinc. Calcium is the most important one on that list because it helps to keep your bones healthy and teeth strong. The best nuts out there with the highest calcium content are almonds and brazil nuts. Nuts are a great way to snack and keep healthy, so stock up asap!
