Of course, any sport is great for keeping active. But, although many children will love whatever sport you show them, there are very few that they can start young and maintain into later life. For example, football is great for running off all that excess energy, but it’s significantly harder to play above the age of forty, and few people carry on playing rugby after their fortieth birthday. Here are three sports you can introduce your child to that they’ll play for life.

Golf

A sport characterised as one favoured by those of retirement age, golf is great fun for people of all ages. Plus, as anyone who plays the sport will tell you, it’s much easier (better) if you start earlier in life, rather than later.

Golf is beloved by most families (even professional ones) because it’s a great way to spend an afternoon in the summer. At golf clubs up and down the country, the sight of three generations of the same family walking up and down the same fairway together isn’t uncommon. There’s no better way to bond over a family than over a round of golf… if you’re playing well, of course.

Cricket

In the same ilk as above, cricket is a great family sport. Hot off a great (and successful) Ashes summer, cricket is on a high right now.

Although cricket can be a very expensive sport to play when you buy all the equipment, it doesn’t need to be at a young age as they play with a much softer ball. Instead, all you’ll really need is some proper cricket shoes.

Most villages and towns have at least one team, so you shouldn’t have any problems in finding your local team. Most even have really young teams where people can start playing from the age of 5 and above. If you’re in an area where cricket is loved, there might even be specialist girl’s teams… although girls can also play with the boys.

Swimming

Easily the cheapest sport on our list, you only need a pair of trunks or a swimming costume and you’re ready to go! Finding your local swimming pool is really simple, and you can often pick up cheap lessons.

Swimming is a great option because it’s really easy on the joints. This means that, as your body ages, you’ll still be able to do it as often as you were before.

Plus, as a final positive, swimming can be really competitive if you love it. So, after getting all the awards, your child could swim for their city or even country: maybe the Olympics beckon?

Sticking to your fitness plans is made a lot easier if you develop a passion for a particular sport. It’s not always easy to find the sport that’s right for you though. Rules of the Game

One thing that puts a lot of people off playing tennis is the complicated rules. But once you take the time to get to know the rules, they’re not that difficult to understand. To start you off, you could watch some tennis matches on television, you’ll soon pick it up.

I’ll go through the rules quickly to help you though. In singles tennis there are 2 players, the players swap serve after each point. The first point is 15, then 30, and finally 40. The first player to win 4 points wins the game. If it’s tied at 40-40, that’s called deuce, and 2 more points have to be won. The first player to win 6 games then wins the set. In men’s tennis, there are normally 5 sets, and in women’s tennis there are 3.

What Equipment You Need

The main things you need to play tennis are a tennis racquet and some tennis balls. If you’re joining a club, they may be able to provide this equipment for you, but it’s always good to have your own equipment. You can pick up a racquet and balls pretty cheaply.

Clothing is also very important if you want to play tennis effectively. Some shorts and a loose t-shirt that lets you move about freely are ideal. You should also get a sweat band and some tennis shoes.

How is Tennis is Good for Fitness?

Although it might not seem like an obvious choice for weight loss, tennis can be a great sport for shedding the pounds. So, why is tennis so good for your fitness? The sport acts as a form of both aerobic and anaerobic exercise. This means it gives you a cardiovascular workout and helps burn fat.

Playing tennis also helps improve your fitness and flexibility. You’re constantly moving around the court chasing the ball, which will make you much more agile and give all your major muscle groups a workout. It’ll also make you much more flexible as you’re forced to stretch for the ball.

Playing Competitively

If you start playing and you find that you’re quite good at it, you might have uncovered a hidden talent. Keep practicing and build up your skills and fitness. And then, if you still feel like pushing yourself further, you could think about entering some amateur tennis competitions.

All Terrain Vehicle or ATV has become one of the most sought after adventure rides these days. They are being offered by a lot of nature parks to roam around their place and even people who don’t have any know-how in driving can ride on it.

Since the vehicle is being used on rough and uneven roads, injuries to riders is very common. That’s why; facilitators see to it that their riders are complete with protective gears. Orientations are being made before any lap of the ride especially for those who are going to try it for the first time. For a group of amateurs, a guide who is riding in ATV is leading the trail with another one at the end of it. Crossfit has been big news for the last 5 years or so. It’s been around much longer than that, but it really started to catch on in the late 2000’s with Crossfit gyms popping up all over the place. We don’t want to get too scientific about things, but we can definitely tell you that the most basic Crossfit method puts big, compound movements as a priority. However, Crossfit isn’t just something people use as a way to get fit – it’s a great sport too! the annual Crossfit games is an international competition that anyone can qualify for with hard work. Crossfit is definitely a complex subject, but we’re going to tell you everything you need to know in this post:

In Crossfit, exercises like the squat, overhead press, Olympic barbell clean and jerk, Olympic barbell snatch, and the deadlift are popular. Not many movements in Crossfit are done lying down or sitting.

 

Typically, you’ll enter a Crossfit gym and there will be a ‘WOD’ on the board, AKA workout of the day. The set workout is like a to do list, but you vary the weight lifted to suit you. The trainer will recommend weights, but you need to alter them to suit you. You should be doing them as heavy as you possibly can though, without causing injury to yourself. If you love Crossfit, you can always take it more seriously and train for the official Crossfit games.

 

You should expect a WOD to be difficult. There will be lots of barbell movements, with hardly any rest. Your entire workout is timed, and you must try to either complete it as quickly as possible, or fit as many rounds as possible (AMRAP) into an allocated time frame. You need to be careful during these workouts, as your technique can suffer as you get tired.

 

One thing is for sure when it comes to Crossfit: you’ll get fit. Very fit! Crossfit workouts are challenging, which will trigger lots of fat loss. You’ll even notice muscle development, which will cause men to get bigger and women to become more ‘toned’. You’ll notice your body composition change for the better, and your shape will be more athletic.

 

You do enter Crossfit at your own risk if you’re new to the weight training scene. However, the pros are greatly outweighed by the cons. The whole notion behind Crossfit is great – community is promoted, strength training is prioritised, and you get some healthy competition while you’re at it. If your goal is to get tighter and leaner, then you can’t go far wrong with Crossfit.

 

With all of this in mind, here are 10 tips for beginners:

 

  • Remember that you’re competing against yourself, not others.
  • Don’t be too proud to scale your workout down. You might need to do pushups on your knees, or simply use the bar without weights for your exercises. Either way, it’s important you try your hardest while minimising injury.
